ISLAMABAD: The government on Thursday appointed Major Gen (Retd) Amir Azeem Bajwa as chairman, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The federal cabinet approved the appointment of General Bajwa as head of the telecom sector’s regulator.
Bajwa has been appointed for a four years’ term which can be extended for another term.
The federal cabinet in December last year had approved the appointment of Major Gen (Retd) Bajwa, who had served as Director General Special Communication Organization (SCO), as Member Technical of the PTA.
This has been a practice that member technical is appointed as chairman of the authority.
The cabinet, which met here with Imran Khan in the chair, considered the summary of Cabinet division for the appointment of PTA chief.
The forum approved the name of General Bajwa as head of the PTA out of the three names proposed by the Division.
The Cabinet division had submitted a summary to the federal cabinet which included the names of all the three members including Major Gen (Retd) Amir Azeem Bajwa (Member Technical), Dr. Khawar Saddique Khokhar (Member Compliance) and Mohammad Naveed (Member Finance).
