RAWALPINDI: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who was arrested from the courtroom after an Accountability Court convicted him yesterday, is being shifted to Lahore from Adiyala Jail in Rawalpindi.
The former Prime Minister has left Adiyala Jail to Islamabad International Airport from where he will be flown to Lahore. The convicted PML-N leader will be shifted to Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail.
The former PM following his conviction in the Al-Azizia reference had pleaded the accountability court judge to order his shifting to Lahore instead of Adiyala Jail in Rawalpindi.
The judge had allowed the plea and ordered the authorities to shift him to Lahore.
However, yesterday he was taken to Adiyala. He stayed Monday night at Adiyala.
Upon reaching Adiala jail on Monday, jail doctors carried out a medical examination of the PML-N leader and found him physically fit.
Tight security had been put in place around the jail before the arrival of the former prime minister as Rangers were deployed at the police checkpoints established on the route to the prison.
According to sources, the PML-N supreme leader was shifted to a ‘better class’ barrack which had been prepared on Sunday night.
The better class prisoners are provided with a mattress, a study table and chair in addition to a TV set and newspaper.
