SC Accepts Unconditional Apology of Faisal Raza Abidi in Contempt of Court Case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday accepted the unconditional apology tendered by former PPP leader Senator Faisal Raza Abidi over his use of derogatory and inappropriate language against Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar.

A three member bench headed by Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh heard the contempt of court case against Abidi.

The outspoken politician had earlier submitted a written unconditional and unqualified apology over his remarks during an interview on a web TV.

Following the interview, the FIA had registered an FIR invoking anti-terrorism act sections against the politician for ridiculing the judiciary and using highly objectionable language against the CJP.

Currently, the ex -senator is in Adiyala Jail in the case. He has been indicted by an anti-terrorism court in the particular case.

The former senator had apologised for his “uncalled-for conduct and remarks against the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan”.

Furthermore, he had acknowledged that he “has no logic, reason or argument to defend his uncalled-for conduct” and “promised that in future [he] will not repeat the grievous mistake”.

Justice Azmat Saeed, who was heading the three-member Supreme Court bench that heard the case today, accepted the apology while noting that, “no one raises objections over constructive criticism; but criticism should be within limits.”
