Pakistan federal cabinet approved lifting moratorium on new gas connections

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet at its meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday approved lifting of moratorium on new gas connections.

According to a report published by a Pakistani news website, pakistantribe.com, the meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

Approving recommendation of Cabinet Committee on energy regarding lifting of moratorium on gas connections, the cabinet approved execution of gas development schemes of the present government.

Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal gave presentation to the meeting on housing sector.

He presented various housing models for low and middle income segments.

He dealt with issues of governance, finance, connectivity, planning, land and housing resilience to natural disasters and effects of climate change with regards to housing sector.

PM said urbanisation is at a rapid pace in Pakistan due to developmental activities. It is, therefore, need of the hour to cater to the demands of housing across the country.

The meeting constituted a sub-committee headed by Minister for Housing to work out detailed plan on housing within 10 days and present it in next Cabinet meeting.

The cabinet also approved a number of agreements and MoUs with different countries in diverse sectors including defense and health.

Later briefing the media persons about the cabinet decisions, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb and Minister of State for CADD Dr Tariq Fazl Chaudhry said the cabinet also approved a policy about daily wagers and contractual employees.

They said the previous government inducted thousands of employees in different departments and divisions without any test or interviews.

They said under the policy, the contractual employees working in grade one to fifteen will be given relaxation in age during the regular hiring process. Similarly, they will be given extra marks based on the years they have served in the government departments during interviews.

Both ministers during media talk said that those working against grade 16 and 17 will only be inducted through Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC).

Marriyum Aurangzeb said the cabinet has also approved bar coding for the packaging of the medicines in order to ensure quality of the medicines. Through this, the consumers will be able to check the expiry of the medicines through their smart phones.

About the housing policy, Marriyum Aurangzeb said that those residing in slums or those possessing no residence will be preference in the low cost housing schemes.

While talking about Indian spy sentence, she said that before the issuance of the death sentence by a military tribunal, Pakistan informed relevant international forums about Jadhav’s case.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said the cabinet also approved outsourcing the management and maintenance of Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi airports.

She said the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will play the role of oversight. Replying a question she said Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has announced policy statement regarding the punishment awarded to Kulbhoshan Yadev in Senate on Tuesday. She said whichever country it will be no compromise will be made on the national interest of the country.

Dr Tariq Fazl Chaudhry said that the under the new housing schemes being introduced by government according to the vision and directions of Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif there will be installment of 14 to 15 thousand rupees and people will be able to become the owners of their own house in 14 to 15 years time.
