SHARJAH – Brilliant bowling by the Karachi Kings bowlers helps them successfully defend a low total of 126 runs to get another life in the tournament in the 2nd playoff of the HBL PSL 2017 at Sharjah Cricket Ground, Sharjah.
Earlier, Islamabad skipper Misbah won the toss and opted to bowl first. The bowlers started off brilliantly, bowling a record 13 consecutive dot balls in the start of the innings. Babar Azam (25) then score briskly along with Chirs Gayle (17) to take the score to 42 runs inside 6 overs.
The duo got out back to back which dropped the scoring rate significantly.
Chasing mere 127 runs, Islamabad United started off confidently, but lost the plot in the middle, losing too many wickets. The ball kept lower in the second inning which created lots of trouble for United batsmen.
Besides Asif Ali (39), no other batsmen could add a prominent contribution. 9 of the United batsmen could not get into double figures.
This is the lowest total defended in the PSL and it’s totally down to Imad Wasim and Usama Mir – two spinners on a night where there was no shortage of dew. They somehow made it work for
They somehow made it work for them though, using the skidders and arm balls and controlling the length and line so well that the batsman could only defend or slog. And when Islamabad chose to slog, they were bowled or lbw. Islamabad were 47 for 2 – and then they were 82 all out.
Karachi Kings will meet Peshawar Zalmi in the second eliminator. The winner of that game will be through to the final.
