BRISBANE: After being a centre of criticism in New Zealand Test series, Asad Shafiq came back with a bang with a gritty hundred at The Gabba, Brisbane.

He did this on the occasion when Pakistan was down under and feared a big defeat in the first Test of Australia, after a 2-0 loss against New Zealand.

His hundred came off 140 balls, with a strike rate of 71.42, while building up a 92-runs partnership with Amir and then a 66-runs stand with Wahab Riaz. Both tail-enders fought valiantly.

This was the 9th hundred from Asad while batting at number 6. With this, he took over Sir Garry Sober’s long-standing record of eight hundred in the same batting position.

In terms of Test runs at No. 6, Shafiq is fifth on the list.

It was Shafiq’s first century in the fourth innings of Tests. He had two fourth-innings fifties previously.
