KARACHI: Prominent leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain has reached home safely after Rangers released him this afternoon.
Dr Amir Liaquat was taken into custody from his office last night after MQM supremo Altaf Hussain’s provocative speech caused unrest in metropolitan city.
Rangers raided Amir Liaqat’s office on I.I Chandigarh Road in Karachi and took MQM leader into custody.
Besides him, Farooq Sattar, Khuwaja Izhar ul Hasan, Amir Khan and Sajid Ahmed were also detained by Rangers.
Farooq Sattar and Khuwaja Izhar were taken in to custody from Karachi Press Club.
Amir Khan was also taken into custody as he tried to leave MQM’s head quarter Nine Zero, in Azeezabad’s area of Karachi.
While MNA Sajid Ahmed was arrested from Malir area of the city.
Rangers has released Dr Amir Liaquat, Farooq Sattar and Khuwaja Izhar ul Hasan, while Amir Khan and Sajid Ahmed are still under custody.
After release, Amir Liaquat spoke to media to clarify that he was detained for interrogation and no case has been registered against him.
