RAWALPINDI: Mumtaz Qadri, who killed former Governor of Punjab Salman Taseer was executed on Monday around 4:30 am at Adiala Jail.
Senior police official Sajjid Gondal told that Mumtaz Qandri, who shot Salman Taseer 28 times, was hanged to death earlier on Monday.
“I can confirm that Qadri was hanged in Adialia jail early Monday morning,” senior local police official Sajjid Gondal told AFP.
Salman Taseer was killed in Kohsar’s Market back in January 4, 2011. Mumtaz Qadri said that he killed Taseer over what he called the politician’s vocal opposition to blasphemy laws of the country.
Qadri was sentenced to death over the killing of Salman Taseer in October 1, 2011 and his mercy plea was rejected by President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain.
Its worth mentioning here that two weeks after Taseer was killed, the only Christian minister in the federal cabinet, Shahbaz Bhatti, was gunned down in Islamabad. He too was a critic of the blasphemy laws.
