First of all, we will try to know the importance of constituency NA-246 where Karachi’s dominant party Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) won the seat in General Election 2013 while another party Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) boycotted the elections during the voting. MQM’s Nabeel Gabool, who joined the party after leaving Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), won his NA-246 seat without running the election campaign here but now he has resigned from the seat. However, the current situation is that the city’s three well-known parties MQM, JI and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are participating in the election.
In the past few days, PTI’s candidate Muhammad Ismail is running the election campaign in the stronghold area of MQM, Azizabad where PTI has to face tough reply by MQM. One thing should be understand us that why Rangers raided at MQM Centre 90 before the election? May be, this time Pakistan’s establishment wants to give this seat to PTI as a gift but it would not be easy to defeat MQM’s candidate because it has stronghold areas in which includes Azizabad, Liaqatabad, Karimabad, F.C. Area and Yusuf Plaza (Sagheer Centre). MQM has set up its election cell at Jinnah Ground and PTI has installed its election cell in Karimabad that is also stronghold of MQM.’
Despite all the facts, PTI is looking enthusiastic for running the election campaign here and JI, the coalition party of PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkwa (KP), has also given a ticket to its candidate, the party running the election campaign and its position already strong here. Anyway, with all facts, Election Commission of Pakistan and security agencies will have to focus on ‘Free and Fair’ elections in Karachi because it is a main issue of all parties.
