Govt to introduce Nizam-e-Salat system in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Wednesday decided in principle to implement Nizam-e-Salat system in the federal capital Islamabad.

A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting chaired by the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, which was also attended by Ulema of different sects and Khateebs of different mosques.

The Minister constituted a committee comprising Ulema which will prepare recommendations regarding the decision and later these would be sent to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for approval.

A final decision in this regard would be taken by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after his return from Saudi Arabia.

Under the system, Azaan (call of prayers) timings will be fixed while Salat (prayers) would also be offered at a fixed time throughout the capital.

The meeting also decided to close all business centers and markets during the prayers timings.

The system will be implemented in the federal capital first on trial basis and later the federal government will request provincial governments to introduce uniformed Nizam-e-Salat system in their respective provinces.
