ISLAMABAD: The family members of slain Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer on Wednesday recorded their statement before the Islamabad High Court (IHC), requesting it to reject the appeal of Mumtaz Qadri against his conviction.
The family members included Shaan Taseer the son of former governor and his daughters Sara Taseer and Sanam Taseer.
In their statement, they stated that they came to know that the defence counsel, former chief justice of the Lahore High Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif had informed the court that the legal heirs have no interest to pursue the case.
However, they sated that they have not received any court notice in this regard.
They said Qadri had committed a heinous murder in cold blood and does not deserve mercy. Further, they went on to say that the accused is a traitor of the country as he murdered the former governor during duty.
They requested the court to reject his murder appeal.
Earlier, Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday reserved a judgement on murder appeal of Mumtaz Qadri, the self-confessed killer of Salman Taseer against his conviction, after councils from both parties have concluded their arguments.
