ISLAMABAD: After passage of 21st constitutional amendment bill and army act amendment bill from Senate, Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif thanked national leadership and parliamentarians for their support and expressed the confidence that they would also extend cooperation during adoption of laws on other aspects of National Action Plan.
He said new laws or amendment in the existing ones are required to implement other points of the Plan.
The Prime Minister said draft laws have been prepared and these would be shared with different parliamentary parties and political leaders before introduction in the parliament.
Mian Nawaz Sharif said adoption of the two bills today is reflective of the fact that the political leadership and parliamentarians understand sensitivity of the prevailing situation and the need to take extraordinary measures to address it.
He said adoption of the two bills by the Parliament today is harbinger to the elimination of terrorism from the country. He said we will have to remain united for the purpose.
He referred to remarks of some Senators that now it is time for results and emphatically stated that it would be his endeavour to make the entire Plan of Action result-oriented.
The Prime Minister said a number of terrorists including hard core are in the internment centres and their cases would now be referred to the special courts.
He also emphasized that courts should be set up under Protection of Pakistan Act so as to ensure speedy trial of cases.
The Prime Minister thanked all leaders who extended their wholehearted support during the process leading to adoption of the two bills and said this shows decisions are being made by the parliament and elected leadership and not by dictators.
He thanked former President Asif Ali Zardari for his unconditional support. Similarly, he said, Altaf Hussain and Asfandyar Khan Wali gave go ahead to their parties for cooperation in the process while Aitzaz Ahsan and Mushahid Hussain were instrumental during consultative process.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Sirajul Haq, Imran Khan, Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, Mir Hasil Bizenjo,Dr. Abdul Malik, Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Ch. Shujaat Hussain and others for their contribution and support.
