ISLAMABAD: Five convicts of the death sentence on Monday filed appeal in the Supreme Court against the issuance of death warrants.
The army court ordered death sentence for the five accused named Ehsan Azeem, Umar Nadeem, Aamir Yousaf, Asif Idrees and Kamran Aslam on the charges of terrorism.
The convicts filed appeal against the death warrant in the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench.
However, the judge of the high court, Muhammad Arshad Tabassam rejected the appeal of the convicts filed against their death warrants.
These convicts are imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat jail. The convicts martyred army jawans while attacking on them at the Chenab Jhelum bridge.
The convicts challenged the verdict of high court in the apex court through their counsel Laeeq Khan Swati and it was said in the appeal that their death warrants should be withdrawn, saying that no justice was given to them.
It was contended in the appeal that no record was given to them regarding proceeding of the military court against them nor they were given the right of filing appeal. The convicts appealed to the court to void their death warrants.
