ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar has said that implementation of death penalty has been suspended in the country until consultation between President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
In his written reply to various question in the National Assembly, the minister said that 522 people had been sentenced to death by various court of the country during last five year.
He said that around711 terrorists had been arrested in the present government’s tenure. “370 terrorists were arrested from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), 255 from Federal Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Balochistan, 36 from Islamabad capital of the country, 31 from Sindh, 12 from Gilgit and three from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).”
However, he did not tell the number of terrorist arrested from Punjab.
Regarding expenditures in Pervez Musharraf treason case, Nisar told the house that the government had paid Rs22.5 million to 23 advocates, Rs10.5 million to prosecution advocates and Rs10 million to constitutional team of lawyers.
