ISLAMABAD: Shamim Kiyani, alleged former wife of a Pakistani senator Azam Hoti, has attempted suicide at Inspector General office at Islamabad due to non-payment of Mehr amount, local media reported on Thursday (today).
Shamim Kiyani was wife of the prominent leader of Awami National Party (ANP) and senator Azam Hoti but separated following court’s order due to domestic disputes emerged in their marital relationship.
Kiyani was stopped by the police officials deployed at Inspector General (IG) office at Islamabad; further they arrested and shifted to women jail, Dunya News said.
She alleged that police and even IG Sikandar Hayat is not responding her complaints while law enforcement agencies are providing protocol to Azam Hoti despite taking any action.
Azam Hoti promised to pay more than Rs1 crore in term of Mehr, the decided money which a Muslim husband gifts to his wife on marriage, but afterwards did not remain true to his words, Shamim Kiyani said.
On the other hand, Azam Hoti has rejected to accept Shamim Kiyani as her wife and recorded his statement in the concerned department, police told the Express News.
