DHAKA: Pakistani fans and media circles has started ‘trying’ national team players in various start following Green Shirts’ defeat against Sri Lanka in last final fight of Asia Cup 2014 as now three most prominent players are being compared with in frame of ‘Digit 18’.
A local newspaper made interesting comparison of Shahid Afridi’s 51 runs on 18 balls, during match played against Bangladesh, with Misbah ul Haq and Fawad Alam’s overall all run chase for Pakistani team after 18 overs in Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka, Express News said.
On one side, Shahid Afridi’s aggressive 51 on 18 balls grabbed victory for the Green Shirts from the Bangladesh while on other side, the ‘extra-defensive’ 51 runs in 18 overs by batsmen including Misbah and Fawad claimed to be failure in making a reasonable target in final.
It should be mentioned that Pakistan’s opening batting line-up collapsed immediately before Sri Lankan bowling via outstanding blows of fast bowler Malanga; afterwards, settled partnership of young batsman Fawad Alam (not out 114) and Misbah ul Haq (65) pulled team score up to 51 after 18 overs.
In the final match of Asia, Fawad Alam became the first Pakistani left hander who ever smashed century on any position rather than openers.
On the other hand, the most-awaited batsman by the cricket fans, Shahid Afridi, observed only last 2 balls played by Fawad Alam while standing on non-striker’s end.
