Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has given verdicts on three cases including petroleum, CNG and electricity price increase case.
During today’s proceedings, the Supreme Court declared collections of additional 9 percent tax on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as unlawful.
The apex court said that OGRA cannot collect additional taxes other than 16 to 17 percent General Sales Tax. It has directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to look into the matter of illegal CNG station licenses.
Announcing the verdict of a case regarding load shedding, the court said National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has failed in delivering its constitutional obligations and directed to maintain subsidy on electricity
Adding that the authority should ascertain prices in future while keeping consumers and stakeholders in mind. The Supreme Court has also ordered that subsidy being given on electricity prices should not be revoked.
