Police sources said after receiving specific information about presence of militants, army and policemen laid siege around Woder area in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
“After plugging off all the possible escape routes, the troopers zeroed-in on a residential house, where two militants were hiding. They were asked the surrender. However, they turned down the offer and fired from automatic weapons towards the troopers. The fire was returned and exchange of fire between the two sides continued till this morning. Two Lashkar militants were killed in the overnight firefight,” they said.
They said one of the militants had died last evening while another was killed this morning. “No casualties or injuries were sustained by the army and policemen,” they said.
The deceased militants were identified as Mudasir Ahmad Ganai and Aashiq Hussain, both local militants.
