Karachi: The negotiations have been initiated with Somali pirates by CPLC chief Ahmed Chunaey on the directives of Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat ul Ibad after passing ten months following kidnapping the Malaysian ship, MV Al Bedo.
The hijackers demanded eight million dollars ransom after hijacking the ship, carrying cement from Karachi to Kenya, making hostage seven Pakistanis among 23 crew.
During a brief conversation arranged by hijackers via phone, the captain of the ship told CPLC Chief Ahmed Chunaey that the hostages were not being provided food items and subjected to torture.
There are seven Pakistanis, Sri Lankans each, five Bangladeshi nationals, two Indians and one Irani national on the ship.
The Malaysian ship MV Albedo departed Karachi 10 months ago on November 26, 2010, carrying cement to Mombasa port, Kenya but it was kidnapped 900 nautical miles off Moghadeshu port.
