The Rawalpindi incident, occurred on Ashura e Muharram or 10th of Muharram, left 10 dead and several injured.
Ameer Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Maulana Fazalur Rehman termed it an effort against the peace and demanded of the government to bring the culprits into the book.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman moved to sort out sectarian tensions heated up after the incident in Rawalpindi on Youm-e-Ashur, in which at least 10 people were killed.
JUI Chief Fazlur Rehman held telephonic conversations with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and demanded investigation of Raja Bazaar tragedy in Rawalpindi on Ashura.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif assured the JUI-F leader that action will be taken against the perpetrators of the incident.
Police have registered case of Raja Bazaar incident in Rawalpindi against unknown accused under anti-terrorism act. Curfew has been continued and cellular phone services have been suspended in Rawalpindi as the troops patrolling and aerial surveillance continued in tense garrison city. The security personnel in Punjab have been ordered to remain at their place of deployment till further orders.
A spokesman of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat has said that the government of Punjab has not handed over the dead bodies of their activists to them after Friday’s incidents in Rawalpindi.
In a party statement, spokesman said that 19 workers of the group have been untraced, while no accused of the incident has been arrested. A party meeting being held to set the future line of action, he added.
Meanwhile a delegation of Ulema met Maulana Fazaur Rehman and informed about the incident. Talking to the delegation Maulana Fazalur Rehman said that
Maulana Muhammad Ahmed Ludhyanvi and Maulana Samiul Haq have held responsible of the incident to administration and demanded the probe into the matter.
While Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Ashrafi terming the incident as tragic has demanded of that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif should himself take steps to normalize the tense situation, while Sheikh Rashid Ahmed demanded of the judicial inquiry of the incident.
MQM leader Altaf Hussain also condemned the killing and demanded stern action against the people involved in the incident. He demanded of the people of all religious sections to keep calm and united.
Meanwhile Majlis Wahdat-ul-Muslemeen has condemned the incident and termed it as the failure of provincial and local administration.
