Punjab govt gives final date of local bodies’ election

LAHORE: The Pakistan’s provincial government of Punjab has given final date for commencement of local bodies election across all cities and districts.

Acting Advocate General of Punjab told the Supreme Court (SC) that local bodies’ poll will be organised in the province by December 14.

The SC was hearing the case of election organising for the establishment of local government election.

The official from the provincial government made confirmation of the exact date for the electoral process, whereas, the apex court asked the acting AG for submission of written reply by September 24.

On the other hand, the Sindh government has given verbal date for the election on November 27 but some further amendments are need to be made in some days.

Meanwhile, preparations for the local bodies’ election in the cantonment areas across Pakistan is also entering into finalisation range as related summary has been sent to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s office.

The Pakistan’s Attorney General Munir A Malik told the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan that summary pertaining the local government election has been presented to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Malik added that the federal government has formed 10-member parliamentary committee for particular amendments and the electoral process can to be organised by November.

He said the PM proposed some changes in the summary and constituted a 10-member parliamentary committee for reviewing purpose.
