Shahid Afridi’s biggest six at Wanderers not more than 110 metres

Lahore: Though Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi, who recently created history by hitting 300th six in One Day Internationals (ODI), smashed 88 off 48 balls against South Africa at the Wanderers Johannesburg but it wasn’t enough to prevent proteas from winning the third match.

Rumours started floating on Social media after Afridi made a mockery of Ryan McLaren’s free-hit delivery, smoking him for what could be the biggest six seen at the Wanderers.

Despite the fact there is no official word on the distance of the hit, the people are calling it 150 and some even 160 metres long, which is totally ridiculous.

Criclense carried out calculations through Google and Wiki maps which showed that the distance of the hit was not more than 110 Metres. However, the calculations done by the Criclense show the distance of the hit was around 102 Metres, but they if they give little benefit to the shot, knowing the calculations done through map can’t be perfect, the shot was not longer than 110 Metres.

Any distance of more than 115 metres from the crease where Afridi was standing means that the ball had to land outside the stadium, but it landed on the roof and only after bouncing it went outside the building.

The Criclense also compared Afridi’s six with Misbah-ul-Haq’s 111 metres , during World T20 2007 against Australia on bowling of Nathan Bracken.

waw! thnx 4 the truth. it is not possible to send d ball that 158 meter. maximum 105 miter it might be…… misbah’s six was bigger than it.

you have calculated the distance from crease to roof but ball landed there and the roof has quit some height, so without the roof the ball would have landed out side the stadium. If the length of six is measured from crease to the point of landing I think it would have traveled 10-30 meters more.

You simple missed out the fact the point where the ball fell/hit was on the top of the fourth floor/last floor. Could you also be kind enough to tell the people what was the exact height of the point. if you know that you will be ashamed of your article.

Newstribe – what are you guys on? Anyone can tell you that the actual distance will be MUCH more than ’102 m’ as the ball didn’t land on the ground. Cheeky

    • numan zahid

every thing aside, the distance the discussion… its about under what circumstance the hit was made .. first of all it was a huge slap at the bowler’s face who was dancing like a duck and second of all if the admin of the page is so keen to prove the distance of the hit he can go and hit the ball even on the first tear … not every one can do that .. hahahah wadi calculation wekho ….

Afridi six was huge, like scoty styres said it that it was one of the the biggest if not the biggest he has seen. he guessed its around 125M and Ravi Bopara wrote on twitter Afridi needs 12 for this one. so i would rather go with professional crickters… anyway take a better look at this six from different angels, extended footage

  • Paki

    rubbish…. biased article…..it was a huge huge hit….

  • gul hassan khan

But here’s the kicker – he now holds the record for the biggest six of the season, after smashing a ball from Steven O’Keefe a whopping 111m. Just for good measure, he hit the next ball out of the ground, although that ‘only’ travelled 109m.

this article prooves that trajectory is measured not just distance btween 2 points, and admin u have to admit it on the page so that you may not produce any confusions in readers

  • gul hassan khan

distance measured for the six is always its trajectory not just distance from the hitting point and landing point, and if it landed 110 meters away means it was not less than atleast 130 meters or may 140 50 because it was way up than the roof and then landed
