Pakistan vs South Africa, 3rd ODI: Shahid Afridi shines but fails to lead green shirts towards win against Proteas

Johannesburg: South Africa has defeated Pakistan by 34 runs in a high scoring third one day international after the green shirts got out at 309 runs while chasing a target of 344 runs at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, South Africa.

While trying to chase a mountain of runs, Pakistan lost hope after their top five batsmen returned to pavilion at 132 runs but Shahid Afridi gave some hope to the team after he scored 88 runs of 48 balls.

Mohammad Hafeez 57, Wahab Riaz 45, Kamran Akmal 30 and Misbahul Haq 28 were the some Pakistani players who contributed in taking the score to the 309 runs. The Pakistani team was bowled out with 11 balls to spare in the match.

South African bowlers took wickets with regular intervals brightening their chances of winning the match. McLaren and Tsotsobe were the pick of the bowlers who shared three wickets each followed by Peterson 2 and Kleinveldt and Dale Steyn taking one wicket each.

Earlier, record third wicket partnership between AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla helped Proteas to set a huge target of 344 runs. Du Plessis’s 45 runs of 19 balls also proved game changer in the final overs.

Except opening bowlers, all others were thrown out of the park by the African batting duo. Mohammad Irfan was once again was the pick of the bowlers as he took two wickets after giving 34 runs. Wahab Riaz also took two wickets but gave 93 runs while Ajmal also send one Proteas player to the pavilion.

South Africa has attained a 2-1 lead in the five match series.
