Elect right people or regret forever: Dr Qadeer’s message to Pakistanis

Islamabad: Father of Pakistan’s nuclear bomb Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan has warned the Pakistani nation that if they don’t elect good people in upcoming elections, their future will be bleak.

He said that he is not going to contest the coming elections.

In a special interview to a local newspaper Nai Baat, Dr AQ Khan said that the dictators and corrupt politicians have taken the country to the edge of destruction.

He urged that the Pakistani nation must give vote to those leaders who meet the criteria given in the Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

The scientist, who heads Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz Pakistan (TTP), said that if given power, his party would resist the upcoming government from any wrongdoing.

He said that virtuous people with uncontroversial background should be inducted in  the law enforcement agencies so that they could stop the illegal activities.

Stating clearly that he would not take part in the polls, he said the TTP will give tickets to its candidates from certain electoral constituencies and also support eligible candidates from other political parties.

Commenting on the printing of new nomination papers by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) without president’s approval he said that the candidates who have nothing to hide or who are not involved in any illegal activity should not worry about that.

However, he questioned the logic of printing extra ballot papers, saying that printing of 200 million ballot papers for 80 million registered voters is unnecessary.

He said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has soft corner for General (retd) Pervez Musharraf despite the fact that the former dictator was charged for the murders of Benazir, Akbar Bugti and innocent girls in Lal Masjid operation. He added that Musharraf also detained the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and other judges.

Dr Qadeer said that the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) should stop Musharraf from coming to Pakistan as they did in the case of the Chief Justice on May 12, 2007.

Of Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project, he said that it should have been done a year or two before.

He said that Pakistani nation is being betrayed on Thar coal project and added that the Reko Diq project was destroyed similarly.
