Lahore: Punjab police have arrested over 100 miscreants for their alleged involvement in Badami Bagh incident.

An angry mob of reportedly more than 3,000 people attacked and burnt almost 100 houses of the Christian community on Saturday the area of Lahore city over an alleged blasphemy case.

Rai Tahir, DIG Operations, said police have detained more than 100 alleged perpetrators and raids were also being conducted to arrest miscreants.

The victims have demanded of the government to arrest the real culprits besides providing them compensation. They also demanded protections.

Police have arrested the accused of blasphemy, Savan Masih alias Bubby, and shifted him to an undisclosed location after Imran, a local barber, accused him of blasphemy.

The police registered an FIR No 112/13 under Section 295-C against the accused.

Badami Bagh SHO Hafiz Abdul Majid told a local newspaper that preliminary investigations showed that Imran had falsely accused Savan of blasphemy.

Savan’s father Chandar Masih also denied that his son had committed blasphemy saying they held the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in high esteem.

Time and again the failure and incompetence of our politicians are on display.  It is their primary job to ‘lead’ the nation out of ignorance, to bring about ‘reforms’ in the society.

Instead of airing stupid talk shows without any positive results in the society, the TV channels should air programs with an aim to bring about reforms in society.

In case anyone commits blasphemy, he should be subjected to the due process of law.  There is no justification of burning the homes of all his community around.  Such acts are inhuman, condemnable and only bring bad name to us as a nation.
