Islamabad: Canadian-Pakistani cleric Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri—known as Abdul Shakoor Qadri in Canada—has decided to appeal in the Canadian federal court after the country’s authorities summoned him for violating his asylum oath.
Canadian authorities had summoned Minhajul Quran International (MQI) chief Qadri next month on charges of violating the asylum oath.
The cleric has hired four lawyers who will appear in the federal court on his behalf to assure that Qadri was completely secure in Pakistan, a local news channel, Express, reported.
Reports said that the cleric is set to leave for Canada on January 27 with his family. But his spokesman said yesterday that Qadri would remain in Pakistan until dialogues with the government are completed.
