4 killed as US drones rain down missiles on N Waziristan

Miranshah: Six people were killed and several other injured after two back-to-back US drone strikes in North Waziristan agency of north western tribal region of Pakistan on Tuesday.

In the first attack, a US drone hit eight missiles at a house, killing four people in Haider Khel area of Mir Ali, and in the second attack, two people were killed in Essakhel area of North Waziristan.

On Sunday, a US drone strike killed at least 17 people injured many others in North Waziristan.

Sources said that the unmanned plane fired 10 missiles on houses in the Babrgarh area.

The covert US drone strikes are publicly criticised by the Pakistani government as a violation of sovereignty but American officials believe they are a vital weapon in the war against Islamist militants.

A report commissioned by legal lobby group Reprieve in September estimated that between 474 and 881 civilians were among 2,562 to 3,325 people killed by drones in Pakistan between June 2004 and September 2012.
