Islamabad: Mobile phone services were suspended in 46 districts across Pakistan  due to Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) on Thursday.

The services will remain closed from 8am to 10pm.

The cellular service providers in the country have suspended their service in 46 districts  including major cities Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Peshawar and Faisalabad.

The official sources said that the cellular networks would be reopened at 10pm tonight.

It has become a regular practice of Pakistani government to suspend mobile services in the country calling it a tactical move against militants who are using the mobile phones as detonators in IEDs.

Previously, the government had blocked the service during the Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid al-Adha and Youm-e-Ishq-e-Rasool (S.A.W) and Ashura in a bid to keep any probable acts of terrorism at bay.
