Gaza: The leader of Hamas Khaled Meshaal plans to visit Gaza, Palestinian territory, after 45 long years of exile to commemorate Hamas’ 25th anniversary.

During his next week visit, Meshaal will also congratulate its leaders and fighters for combating Israel during the recent eight-day offensive, senior Hamas official said on Saturday requesting anonymity.

“I am thrilled and proud that I will be returning to Gaza,” Meshaal said.

Hamas leader went into exile after the 1967 Six Day war and has led Hamas since 1996, helping to build the movement into a potent force.

He escaped an Israeli assassination attack in Jordan in 1997. He was based in Syria but after civil war broke out there, Khalid relocated to Qatar.
