Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak resigns

Tel Aviv: Israeli defense minister Ehud Barak has resigned from his post and announced that he will quit politics after general elections in the country next January.

Ehud Barak’s resignation, also from the post of Deputy Prime Minister, has brought to an end his long career in the military and political establishment of the country.

Barak served as Prime Minister from 1999 to 2001, minister of internal affairs and as an officer in the Israeli Defense Forces for 35 years.
