New Delhi: An 11-year-old girl was attacked by her neighbor after she foiled a rape attempt in Vishvakarma colony in south Delhi, police said on Friday. The assailant has been arrested.
Amol Singh, 30, was arrested from Tughlakabad railway station early Friday morning for stabbing the girl at his residence in Vishvakarma colony in south Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur loality around 7 pm on Thursday.
The girl, who received more than three stab injuries, was rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where her condition is stated to be critical.
“A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the accused,” said a police officer.
According to the victim’s family members, the girl had gone to Singh’s rented house to get cold water.
“The accused, who was drunk at the time of the incident, stabbed the victim after failing in his rape attempt. The incident came to light after the girl’s father approached the house of the accused. Seeing the girl’s father, the accused fled from the spot, but landed in police custody early Friday,” said the officer.
