Karachi: Karachi’s most prestigious academic institute, University of Karachi, is going through a difficult phase in terms of finance as the university administration did not even have the funds to give pensions and is in need of emergency financial assistance.
According to sources, Karachi University’s electricity dues have gone up to Rs.20 million while its bank balance last month was only Rs. 200,000.
Professor Monis Ahmer of the Karachi University has said that 800 non-academic staff were appointed in former Vice Chancellor Peerzada Qasim’s tenure, which is a burden on the institution.
Monis Ahmer also said the Karachi University could not improve the conditions of transportation, canteen and libraries because of lack of funds.
