ICC World T20: Pakistan beat New Zealand by 13 runs

Pallekele: Pakistan beat New Zealand by 13 runs in Group D match of International Cricket Council (ICC) World T20 on Sunday here at Pallekele. 

In reply to Pakistan 177 runs, the Kiwis team were managed to score 164 runs for 9 wickets. Rob Nicol and Kane Williamson provided 53 runs first-wicket stand. Nicol was dismissed by Shahid Afridi on 33 runs.

After losing 2 wickets for 54, New Zealand were looking positive to chase when Brendon McCullum and Daneil Vettori were on crease. Vettori was dismissed on 18 runs by Saeed Ajmal after adding 48 runs for the third wickets.

McCullum was bowled out by Umer Gul on 32. Ross Taylor played a flying inning 26 runs on just 11 balls.

Saeed Ajmal took four wickets for 30 runs.

 Earlier, a half-century by Nasir Jamshed took Pakistan to 177 against the black caps.

Winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bat first. Openers Mohammad Hafeez and Imran Nazir provided a stable partnership at the top.

Nazir however was dismissed by Tim Southee – caught & bowled – on 25 runs after adding 47 runs for the first wicket.

The Pakistani captain was later joined by Nasir Jamshed and the duo built a 76-run partnership for the second wicket.

Hafeez’s dismissal (43) did not deter Jamshed as the youngster continued to pile up runs. He was eventually dismissed after scoring 56 runs in the 16th over.
