Twenty20 World Cup 2012 starts today

Colombo: International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20 is going to start today in Sri Lanka, with the opening match between the host and Zimbabwe.

Twelve teams are participating in the event who will play 27 matches including quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final.

England are taking part in the event as the defending champion. The teams are divided in four groups. Pakistan is in group D with Bangladesh and New Zealand.

First ICC T20 World Cup was held in South Africa in 2007 in which India defeated Pakistan. The second T20 World Cup was held in England in which Pakistan defeated Sir Lanka by 8 wickets while the third T20 World Cup was held in West Indies in which England defeated Australia by 7 wickets.

In Group A, defending Champions England, Afghanistan and India while in group B Australia, Ireland and West Indies. In group C, host Sri Lanka, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
