Colombo: Pakistan on Monday defeated India by 5 wickets in International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup worm up match.
Earlier, India won the toss and decided to bat first. Although the opening batsman G Ghambhir got out early but V Kholi and RG Sharma who scored 127 runs played brilliantly to stabilize the Indian innings. V Kholi’s blistering inning of 74 runs in innings helped the team to score a reasonable target of 186 runs for the loss of three wickets.
Pakistan bowlers tried to restrict the flurry of runs but failed in their attempt. Saeed Ajmal took 2 wickets while Umer Gul took one wicket.
In reply, Pakistan’s middle order wicket keeper batsman Kamran Akmal played a blistering unbeaten inning of 92 runs. Shoaib Malik was not out at 37 and skipper Mohammed Hafeez made 38 runs paving the way to a last over win against India. Pakistan accomplished the target with 5 balls remaining.
India’s R Ashwin took 4 wickets for 23.
