Washington: Rumours were rife that Alfonso Ribeiro, aka Carlton from “Fresh Prince,” was dead on Saturday, and the actor had to assure to his fans on his Twitter account that he is alive and well.
Ribeiro is just the latest victim in a string of death hoaxes, thanks to social media.
“R.I.P. Alfonso Ribeiro” is a Facebook page that was created this week and by Saturday the death rumours had gone so viral that the actor felt compelled to dispel them.
The news that Ribeiro hadn’t died follows the false rumours that rapper 50 Cent and comedy superstar Eddie Murphy had also died.
“I guess FB has a page saying I died. I wonder what people are gonna say at my funeral?” Ribeiro tweeted on Saturday.
