London: Four-time champion Roger Federer beat Australia’s Bernard Tomic 6-2 6-4 to reach in the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Masters.
Tomic was defeated in just over one hour to set up a last eight meeting with American Mardy Fish.
Meanwhile, Murray was shocked by French lucky loser Jeremy Chardy 6-4 6-4 to end the defence of his Cincinnati title.
In the women’s draw Serena Williams, top seed Agnieska Radwanska and Petra Kvitova all advanced.
