PM Ashraf ensures fair elections

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Monday reiterated that the government is determined to hold free, fair and transparent elections in the country.

Speaking to the journalists here at Iftar dinner at PM House, the PM said that PPP government was committed to hold elections in transparent manner so that the people could choose their representatives.

“People will get an opportunity to decide who would run the government in the future,” the prime minister added.

Pervez Ashraf said that after election of CEC, next general elections would be held in more transparent manner.

“Election is our field and we are always ready to go to elections,” he said.

He said that the government would ensure holding of free, fair and transparent elections in the country, which was the only way to strengthen democracy.

Highlighting the role of media, the Prime Minister said media role has become important in the prevailing situation. He called upon media to play its role effectively.

He said media is an important pillar of the society, adding incumbent government even cannot think to impose curbs on media. He said several measures were taken by the government to strengthen media.
