London: April Ross and Jennifer Kessy of USA defeated Czech Republic’s Kristyna Kolocova and Marketta Slucova in the quarter final of the Women’s beach volleyball at London Olympics 2012.
United States duo win against their rivals with 25-23 and 21-18 at Horse Guards Parade and confirmed their entry in the semi-final.
The first set was back-and forth, with the two sides trading points until the U.S. women finally won 23–22. Kessy and Ross made too many service errors and too many hitting errors; the Czechs got the first match point, which the Americans defended.
Kessy and Ross started out better in the second set with an early 11–3 run before losing focus and letting the Czechs go on a run of their own. Again the U.S. women couldn’t land shots in the court, while the Czech defense handled whatever didn’t go out.
The Americans were breathing hard even after a time out to recompose. Fortunately, the Czechs were tired too, but still fought off three match points before April Ross finally hit a spike the Czechs couldn’t handle.
