2 colleges merged: UK’s largest college underway in Birmingham

Birmingham: After merger of two famous colleges of Birmingham, United Kingdom’s biggest college has been on its way with name Southend City College, to be the biggest in its volume and number of students.

The two colleges, which will lose their identity for the creation of the largest college, include South Birmingham College and City College.

The college, after the merger, would cater the needs of about 25,000 students with a large number of Pakistani students will be among them.

The decision of the merging the two colleges was taken in principle after a positive nod from Michael Gove, Britain’s Secretary Education.

The senior teachers and management of both colleges are hopeful that the merger will further increase academic quality besides boosting Birmingham both economically and Industrially.

In the new college about 1200 teachers will give provide their expertise while former Chief of South Birmingham College Mike Hopkins will be the Chief Executive of the super college.

“Though it’s big in volume” Mike Hopkins says ‘the new college would still be able to provide better quality of education and training opportunities to students.’

 “Our aim is to provide quality education programs which could help Birmingham economically and industrially” he added.
