Contempt law struck down: High-level meeting underway at presidency

Islamabad: A high level meeting of PPP led coalition parties, presided by President Asif Ali Zardari, is in progress at President House Islamabad.

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf was also attending the meeting. The meeting would consult the after math of the decision given by Supreme Court of Pakistan, striking down the new law of contempt.

On Friday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan declared new Contempt of Court law null and void and ruled various sections of the law are contradictory to the Constitution.

On the occasion, PML-Q Leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Deputy PM Pervaiz Elahi, MQM leader Babar Ghori, Farooq Sattar, ANP leaders Haji Adeel, Afrasiyab Khattak, FATA leader Munir Orakzai, BNP leader Israr Ullah Zehri and others were also present.

The meeting would also discuss the political situation of the country in the upcoming weeks as SC has given a deadline of August 8 to Raja Pervez Ashraf in order to write a letter to Swiss authorities.
