In what appeared to be an interesting revelation Dost Muhammad Khan Mehsud, a close friend of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, has said the PTI Chief is quite popular among Taliban ranks for his daring and consistent stance against the US-led war on terrorism and drone strikes inside Pakistan, said The News International, one of the leading English daily in Pakistan.Muhammad, a retired bureaucrat told the paper that there had been no interaction between Khan and Taliban ever, as they (Taliban) were up against the state policies.
“Since Taliban are from us and also so many of them belong to Mehsud tribe, our people remain in touch with them. I learnt from them that Imran is so much popular among them for his anti-US stand, which no other political or religious leader could adopt,” The News quoted the Khan’s friend as saying.
He said Taliban fully knew who spoke and acted hypocritically and who was raising his voice since 2004 for shunning the war being fought mindlessly and that had added to the trouble instead of offering any solution to it.
“PTI policies are not designed to please someone, these purely and sincerely aim at serving and protecting Pakistan’s own interests. Therefore, if Taliban like these policies, there is no harm in it,” he maintained.
