Karachi: Social media has emerged as powerful and influential medium in Pakistan for information and opinions though some say it is largely uncontrolled and unauthentic and causes confusion among the masses due to unconfirmed facts and figures.

The social media in Pakistan is said to be passing through from its evolutionary stage and impacted positively and negatively alike on internet connected society because the consumption of social media reflects on minds of its users in any way.

Interestingly social media activists and particularly few bloggers have gained reputation for their bold analysis and logical point of views about incidences, political and social ideologies, and multiple areas of interest.  On the other hand, few of them failed to make a difference and remained anonymous.

TheNewsTribe brings diversified point of views of analysts who have been keeping a close eye on social media activism, its advantage and disadvantages.  Are social media activists showing responsibility or creating confusion among masses?

Rai Azlan Shahid, a blogger and an activist on social media

Are social media activists showing responsibility? One word answer is no.

Social media has given us a power that we are abusing with the passage of time.  The quality of blogging was far better two years ago than today.

If social media and bloggers are somewhat equal to the mainstream media and journalists, then there should be a check and balance of the credibility of them just like we whine for mainstream and journos.

Qazafi Butt, a Journalist and an active user of social media

Social media is not reliable medium for me because people do express their views whatever they feel right but the unfortunate thing for me is how the conventional media take it seriously.

There should be a complete check and balance system on conventional and social media. The information of Broadcasting should establish a cell to monitor social media.

Khawar Khan, a radio journalist and social media activist

There is a general perception that social media activists are not responsible and reliable but it won’t be lasting long with the passage of time.

The content produced by bloggers will improve gradually and their reliability will increase as if few renowned bloggers who presented facts with evidence and documentary proofs.

The technology has made it easier for people to raise their voice through their blogs and social networking and micro-blogging sites. But things have not reached at mature level yet, as some contents seem reliable, some look fake and some seem non-sense.

But the mix-up things will filter itself in the future as if electronic media is doing itself. And it will be witnessing that responsible bloggers will be accepted and conspiracy theorists will be rejected by the readers.

There are good and bad people wherever in the society and social media or media has no exception of it because there are some parameters do exist on the basis a readers can find someone reliable and someone fake.

As far as code of conduct is concerned, the media or social media cannot controlled under tight regime but a guideline should be framed with the consultation of bloggers voluntarily, which should be followed with true letter and spirit.
