Fourteen people were killed and nine injured when a pickup truck carrying 23 people struck two trees north of Corpus Christi, Texas.
The truck, carrying some illegal passengers, veered off of the right side of the highway and slammed into the trees, ABC News quoted Gerald Bryant of the Texas Department of Public saying.
“This is the most people I’ve seen in any passenger vehicle, and I’ve been an officer for 38 years,” Bryant told ABC News.
Six of those killed were still inside the truck when emergency crews arrived to find the severely damaged vehicle, Bryant said. Of those who died, 11 were men and three were female.
