Lahore: An upright police officer was relegated to a sinecure   post of OSD (Officer on Special Duty) for lodging an FIR of a missing person in Lahore.

A private television channel on Friday reported Superintended Police (SP) Athar Wahid was made OSD and sent back to Police Headquarters after he lodged an FIR on behalf of wife of Navid Butt, spokesman for proscribed Hizb-ut Tahrir.

The FIR was sealed shortly after it was registered. However, the TV channel claimed to have acquired a copy of the report.

The police sources told that neither the copy of the FIR was sent to concerning office nor anybody was informed about the registration of the case.

The TV report said it was the same officer who refused to arrest pro-judiciary workers in Gujranwala during the lawyer’s movement.

Recently the officer had a verbal  brawl with the security staff of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
