Later, Malik while talking to reporters, expressed gratitude to President Asif Ali Zardari and Altaf Hussain, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), for reposing confidence in him again.

Replying to a query, he said he vacated the seat due to the statements of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif.

He said he is only a Pakistani citizen and had submitted papers regarding relinquishing of British citizenship.
