Islamic Ideological Council recommends ban on women boxing

Islamabad: Expressing concerns over growing trend of women boxing in Pakistan, Islamic Ideological Council (IIC), the state body to regulate laws, recommends banning it as ‘it is forbidden in the lights of Shariah.

In contrast, the representative of women boxing bodies said that in world women were moving forward in games so Pakistan, in given limitations, should allow women to play such games.

According to Daily Naibaat, IIC gave references of some news quoting measures of the government to develop women boxing in the country.

This design was made because the countries who has signed the Olympic charter has to assure 40 percent women representative for next Olympics.

IIC views flourishing such games is just blind copying of West despite the fact that games like boxing do not consider decent dresses for women and breach sanctity of Muslim women.

The report of Council further said that Shariah forbids to slap someone’s face irrespective of male and female.

Islamic Ideological Council recommended government to ban teaching women boxing in educational institutes and clubs.

Giving his perspective on issue, Islamabad Boxing Association Secretary General Shahid ul Haq said that women boxing should be allowed.

“If there is any violation of Islamic traditions and sanctity of women, then arrangement must be made to remove it. But a complete ban on women boxing is the not solution.”

Pak Turk International College Islamabad trainer Aun Abbas says he is training 10 boys and 15 girls.

“I am trying to provide the environment which could be satisfactory for the parents.”

He also said that the training classes will be closed from 15^th July and would reopen after Ramadan and favored that boxing should be allowed within limitations.
