Misophonia is a real disorder. Misophonia’s literal meaning is “hatred of sound”. Misophonia is actually the anger that some people get when they hear some specific sounds like people eating, biting their nails, tapping their legs, sound of breathing etc.
People deals with it differently, most people leave the area so they can avoid the sound. Others use headphones and music to escape the sound. Some people feels the desire of repeating that sound and in some extreme cases, people stop socializing to stay away from irritating sounds.
Selective Sound Sensitivity can be the synonym of Misophonia. The disorder defines the loathing of a person for some sounds, which can be loud or soft. This disorder is not fully understood but the possibility is it originates in the central nervous system structure and is genetic in nature.
The reason behind it can be the strong connection between autonomic and limbic systems. Such people are also diagnosed with mood disorder.
