Islamabad: A nine-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday resumed the hearing in the memo case.
The bench, headed by Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, was hearing the case.
During today hearing, the bench asked Asma Jahangir, the counsel of Asma Jahangir, as to why her client had not appeared for the hearing.
Asma said that the court’s directives had been delivered to Haqqani and added that her client was in danger in Pakistan.
She also read out the letter of Hussain Haqqani’s during the hearing in which he stated that his life was in danger in the country as few politicians and the memo commission had declared him traitor.
“The commission has not declared Haqqani as traitor it was just their comment,” the bench remarked.
The counsel should request the government and not the court to provide security to Haqqani, Justice Tariq Pervez said.
She said that the government provided security to Haqqani was when he was useful. “We contacted the government regarding his security but have not been given a reply,” Asma said.
Asma requested the court to review its directive of summoning Haqqani in the given circumstances.
The bench directed her to follow the court’s rules if she wants exemption for her client and submit application in the apex court in that regard.
Later the court granted her three days to submit application in the court and adjourned the hearing for indefinite period.
