180 people killed in Karachi during June

Karachi: Ethnic, sectarian and politically linked violence in Karachi has killed at least 180 people in the month of June, statistics shows.

Parts of the country’s financial capital have become battlegrounds in the last month, with authorities unable to prevent spiralling violence blamed on activists from political parties representing competing ethnic groups.

“About 63 people were killed in first 10 days of June and 32 out of them were gunned down after kidnapping,” The News Tribe correspondent from Karachi reports.

The correspondent said that about 72 people were killed during June 11 to 20 while another 45 people including seven members of banned outfits were assassinated in the city during last ten days of the previous month.

The death toll for the last month confirmed by our police sources show the number of victims of violence is not less than 180.

The government has campaigned to end the clashes and deployed hundreds of additional police and paramilitary forces in the city, but the killings have continued in moth populous city of the country.
